A street named for stars
A walk through old Jeju
Countless footsteps have passed along these old streets within Jeju’s former walled town. The memory of Chilseongdae, said to be laid out in the shape of stars, leads past Gwandeokjeong and the market, towards Sanjicheon and the sea.
The walls are gone and the street has changed many times, but people still walk this way. Today’s Jeju continues over its older layers of time.

From the sea to the walled town,
from the walled town to today
Jeju has long been open to the sea. People, skills, customs, and stories crossed the water, shaping the time and culture of Tamna.
In the old Jeju fortress, a place still remembered as Seongan, roads converged around Gwandeokjeong, the local offices, and the market. The seven sites said to echo the Big Dipper remain in this street’s name: Chilseong.
Walls and coastlines changed, and Sanjicheon was covered and later restored. Yet dress shops and storefronts continued to gather along Chilseong-ro, bringing clothes, people, and new tastes together. C7 is part of that ongoing time.
The memory of Chilseongdae remains in the name Chilseong-ro and in the landscape of this street.
